What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you have the money and the opportunity, why not spend a small fraction of it to place a few of these supercars in your garage.

Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market.

10. Porsche Carrera GT – $440,000

 The Porsche Carrera GT is a mid-engined sports car that was manufactured by Porsche in Leipzig, Germany. A supercar with dynamic stability control and a top speed of 205 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The Porsche Carrera GT applies the absolute calibers of a true racing car to offer an unprecedented driving feeling on the road.

 SLR stands for “Sport, Leicht, Rennsport” (sport, light, racing). Mercedes-Benz stated that they would build 3,500 SLRs over seven years, with an annual production of 500 cars. The car’s base price, GB£295,337 (approx. US$450,000, €350,000, CHF 500,000 or C$ 500,000. 2009), made it the ninth most expensive street-legal car in the year 2008
A GT supercar, the SLR McLaren is the fastest automatic transmission car in the world with a top speed of 206 mph+ and reaching 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. It is a luxurious convertible with a really powerful engine, which results in outstanding performances and style.

 The Koenigsegg CCX is a mid-engined roadster from Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegg. The Koenigsegg is fighting hard to become the fastest car in the world. Currently, it is the 4th fastest car in the world with a top speed of 245 mph+.

7. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo – $555,000

The Saleen S7 is a limited-production, hand-built, high-performance American supercar developed jointly by Steve Saleen for the initial concept and direction, Hidden Creek Industries for resources and initial funding, Phil Frank for the body and interior CAD design and development, and Ray Mallock Ltd. for the chassis engineering.
The first true American production certified supercar, this cowboy is also rank 3rd for the fastest car in the world. It has a top speed of 248 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds.

6. SSC Ultimate Aero – $654,400

 The SSC Ultimate Aero is an American-built mid-engine supercar by Shelby SuperCars. The higher-performance limited production version previously held the Guinness Book of World Records record for being the fastest production car in the world (succeeded by the 2010 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, with a recorded speed of 412.29 km/h (256.19 mph). The 2nd fastest street legal car in the world, after the Bugatti Veyron, with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. It cost nearly half as much as the Bugatti Veyron.

5. Pagani Zonda C12 F – $667,321

 The Pagani Zonda is a sports car built by the Italian manufacturer Pagani. It debuted in 1999, and production ended in 2011. As of June 2009, 206 Zondas had been built, including test mules. Both 2-seat coupe and convertible versions have been produced. Construction is mainly of carbon fiber.
The Pagani Zonda C12 F is the 5th fastest car in the world. It promises to deliver a top speed of 215 mph+ and it can reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

4. Ferrari Enzo – $670,000

 The Enzo Ferrari is a 12 cylinder mid-engine berlinetta named after the company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari. It was built in 2002 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fibre body, F1-style electrohydraulic shift transmission, and Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide ceramic composite disc brakes. Also used are technologies not allowed in F1 such as active aerodynamics and traction control. The Enzo’s V12 engine is the first of a new generation for Ferrari. It is based on the architecture of the V8 found in sister-company Maserati’s Quattroporte, using the same basic architecture and 104 mm (4.1 in) bore spacing.

3. McLaren F1 – $970,000
 The McLaren F1 is a supercar designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. On 31 March 1998, it set the record for the fastest road car in the world, topping at 231 mph (372 km/h) with rev limiter on, and 240 mph (386.24 km/h) with rev limiter removed.  The car features numerous proprietary designs and technologies; it is lighter and has a more streamlined structure than even most of its modern rivals and competitors despite having one seat more than most similar sports cars, with the driver’s seat located in the middle (and slightly forward of the passengers seating position providing excellent driving visibility). It features a powerful engine and is somewhat track oriented, but not to the degree that it compromises everyday usability and comfort.

 The Lamborghini Reventón is a mid-engine sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the most expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing one million euros . Its top recorded speed was recorded in Dubai, UAE at 356 kilometres per hour (221.2 mph). it is the most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built, and the second on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. Its rarity (limited to 20) and slick design are the reasons why it is so expensive and costly to own.

 The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is a mid-engined grand touring car. The Super Sport version is the fastest road-legal production car in the world, with a top speed of 431 km/h (268 mph). The original version has a top speed of 408.00 km/h (253.52 mph). It was named Car of the Decade (2000–2009) by the BBC television programme Top Gear. Designed and developed by Volkswagen Group (based on the Bentley Hunaudieres concept) and produced by Bugatti Automobiles SAS at their headquarters in Château Saint Jean in Molsheim (Alsace, France), the Veyron’s chief designer was Hartmut Warkuss, and the exterior was designed by Jozef Kabaň of Volkswagen, with much of the engineering work being conducted under the guidance of former Peterbilt Trucks engineer and now Bugatti Engineering chief Wolfgang Schreiber.

The best part of this car is that it can legally be driven by anyone with a driving permit, unlike other super cars that require special driving permits!

These are simply amazing! And definitely costly too. But for sure, as you said, if people have extra money and the opportunity, they would definitely want some of these in their garages.
